Psychology is a versatile discipline that uses scientific methods to study human behavior and mental processes. The Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) programme at KPJU will provide students with key knowledge, training in analytical thinking and research and professional skills, with a strong focus in healthcare. Students will learn to use principles of psychology to observe, assess and analyse human behavior in various settings. These skills will be the key to open opportunities to a broad range of careers.

This course pays special attention to the roots of modern psychology for the purpose of understanding how the field of psychology has developed to its current state, and how the interaction with society has shaped its development and shifts in paradigm.

This course explores the principles and theories of normal child growth and development from birth through adolescence. It focuses on the physical, social, emotional and cognitive domains of development and their application in daily lives. Well-known theories of development will be discussed in detail.

This course provides a broad overview of sociology and how it applies to everyday life. Major theoretical perspectives and concepts are presented, including sociological imagination, culture, deviances, inequality, social change and social structure.

Kursus ini membincangkan berkenaan ilmu ketamadunan masyarakat dunia melibatkan perkembangan tamadun Islam dan elemen berkaitan tamadun Islam dan masyarakat dunia, serta masyarakat Asia khususnya Melayu, India dan Cina. Selain itu, dengan mempelajari modul ini pelajar diharapkan dapat (i) menghuraikan peranan nilai ketamadunan dalam pembentukan, sistem nilai masyarakat Malaysia; (ii) mempamerkan kebolehan komunikasi sosial dalam kepelbagaian landskap budaya serta (iii) membahaskan elemen ketamadunan dengan isu kemasyarakatan semasa.

This course will introduce the issues, concepts and research methodology of developmental psychology, with a focus on adulthood and aging. It also provides information on three different aspect of development which are physical, social and cognitive.

This course studies how individuals perceive, influence, and relate to others. It has also been described as an attempt to understand and explain how the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of individuals are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. Students will be exposed to the theoretical and practical concept in social psychology.

This course surveys anatomical structures and functioning as the biological bases for human functioning and psychological states. Topics investigated include sensory processing, movement, emotional expression, learning, memory, language, and psychopathology

This course provides students with basic knowledge related with human learning. Major theories concerning the learning process and their implications for the instructional process are discussed.

Through this course, students will be able to use inferential statistics, identify various types of research, choose suitable methods and approaches for specific problems, plan a research, identify a sampling, collect valid and reliable data and select suitable methods for data analysis. Among the contents of this course are Parametric and Non-Parametric Inferential Statistics

This course introduces students to psychological theories and principles in areas pertaining to health and wellbeing. It also examines the theoretical and empirical contributions of psychology to the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention and treatment of illness.

This course provides an overview of different approaches on counseling theories while dealing with clients. This course will guide the students to apply the counseling approaches in the helping process. Students will be exposed to the individual’ issue and will be given an opportunity to facilitate their own growth as social helpers by using the counseling approaches.

The course will provide an overview of specific psychiatric disorders, history, causes and diagnostic criteria of disorder underlying in the latest DSM. This course will provide critical discussion on the issues of psychopathology in terms of intervention and treatment. Opportunity may be offered to the students for field trips to mental health facilities for hands on learning experiences.

Kursus ini memfokuskan hubungan etnik di Malaysia, konsep-konsep asas hubungan etnik, masyarakat pluralistik, pembangunan ekonomi. Ia juga turut memfokuskan politik, perlembagaan dan agama dalam konteks hubungan etnik di Malaysia serta cabaran dan pemupukan hubungan etnik di Malaysia.

This course provides students with basic knowledge related with personality psychology .It is a broad sub-discipline that involves various topics including the importance of the unconscious, the role of the self-gender differences, biological approach and cultural influences.

This course explore on the key theories and models of the development of parenting and family interactions, as well as examine different family structure and functions. The course will focus on applications of developmental models to intervention and the role of parenting interventions in the prevention and management of social, emotional, behavioral and health problems.

This course builds on the statistical analyses used in psychological research covered in Statistic I (BPY2173). This course will contribute to the development of the ability for students to analyse their own empirical studies, which will be needed in the completion of Project Paper I and Project Paper II, and for them to conduct future research.

Students will become familiar with the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the domain in psychological testing. This course also will include the contemporary issues such as the validity of instruments for diverse populations and the impact of technology on assessment.

This course introduces students to the field of clinical psychology. Students will learn about the history and the scientific foundation of the practice of clinical psychology, as well as the current trends in the field. Students will be also introduced to the different perspectives and its differing conceptualization and treatment of mental disorders.

In this course students will learn the differences and the uniqueness of counseling services towards individuals, the major process of counseling phases and different types of counseling techniques. This course also will demonstrate the practical approach of using counseling skill while conducting counseling session or dealing with people in diverse population. It also includes professional issues related specifically to the counseling process.

Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology is the application of the scientific study of human behaviour and thinking in organizations. This course focuses on both research and the application of research findings to practical problems in the workplace. This course aims to develop students’ knowledge in various aspects of industrial and organizational psychology.

Subjek ini diwujudkan untuk memperkenalkan kepada pelajar mengenai dasar-dasar negara Malaysia yang terkini. Pelajar akan lebih memahami mengenai faktor penggubalan sesuatu dasar dan pengaplikasian dasar tersebut di negara Malaysia yang terdiri daripada masyarakat majmuk.

This course provides students with the ability to conduct an academic research. This course also provide the students about the practice and experience of doing research with the processes in preparing the research

This course will discuss career development theory, opportunity, resources and role in the field of career development. Students will be exposed with the current issues of career choices and integrate the relationship between career choices with the theory of career development. Students will also be exposed with the latest learning tool to identify the career choice among individuals.

Students will be exposed with the relationship between culture and psychology that include the developmental, social, personality, cognition and perception. This course also provide the methodological and theoretical foundations of cross-cultural psychology that are needed for critical review and literature. This course will also discuss the contribution of cross-cultural psychology in the communities and in the developing world

In this course students will be introduced to the major themes in the field of cognitive psychology. As part of understanding and applying cognitive concepts, students will expose to the major theoretical positions, relevant research findings, and specific research methods will be presented and discussed.
Areas to be covered in this course are memory, thinking perception and reasoning.

This course prepares and equips student with the knowledge, skill and attitude to understand legal and ethical considerations in healthcare practices and psychology.

Entrepreneurship encourages economic activity in the country. Currently, there are not enough jobs to support the employment market; students who have completed formalized traininng can provide self-employment. However, many entrepreneurial ventures fail due to poor planning and organization. It enables students to integrate and use management skills to plan, organize and develop along structured lines a new venture in any competitive market.

Work has an impact on physical and psychological health. In this course, students will explore the health and safety issues of various types of work. Students will gain an understanding of the current state of occupational safety and health globally including the enforcement of laws regulating occupational safety and health and the roles of workers, union and employers.

This course provides students with basic knowledge about the important knowledge in employer-employee relationship. It also help to have better understanding in complexities of managing people in organization.This course also examines the evolving human resources function within today’s organizations.

This course emphasize on how psychological factors affect performance and how participation in sport affects psychological development, health and emotional wellbeing. Students will also be introduced to basic psychological techniques employed by sport psychologists in their practice as well as gaining an understanding of the importance of the role of culture in sports psychology

This course is an active effort to help students implement the knowledge they are learning in the classroom which requires students to engage in community service project. This course desires the students to develop a natural bent for helping others. The students will be able to learn to see a need and act to meet that need.

Students may choose a practicum experience with approval from the practicum instructor. Students will be required to prepare a detailed report and journal on their experiences including sample of work undertaken, an analysis of the organisation, etc. Appraisal form will be filled up by the supervisors assigned to the students by the employer.
