Programme Overview

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Hons) is a 4-year homegrown programme offered by School of Nursing, KPJ Healthcare University, Nilai Negeri Sembilan. It obtained an approval from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) on 24 October 2013 and the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) on 3 February 2014. The structure of the curriculum was guided by the Standard and Guidelines of the Nursing Board of Malaysia. The total number of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Hons) credit is 138.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing is accredited by the Malaysia Qualification Agency Ministry of Education Malaysia. Full accreditation for Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Hons) home-grown programme was obtained in October 2018. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the Nursing Board Malaysia Licensure Examination for registered Nurses offered by the Nursing Board Malaysia.

Career Opportunity

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Hons) programme has been designed to prepare nurses for entry-level professional practice. The program structure enables the nursing graduates to be prepared for all types of hospital setting. Upon successful completion of the programme, students are eligible to sit for the Malaysian Nursing Board Examination to be licensed to practise as a Registered Nurse.

Financing your Study

KPJ offers Scholarship for Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the form of Biasiswa by Merit that reflects our commitment in grooming future Registered Nurses.  With the combination of PTPTN and our Scholarship, students may need to pay very little tuition.  To ensure smooth clinical training at our 29 KPJ Specialist Hospitals, we provide Free-of-Charge (FOC) off-campus accommodation for all Bachelor students throughout their study as well as their first year on-campus accommodation in Nilai.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Malaysian students:

Either one (1) of the following below :-

 i) Pass Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or “EQUIVALENT with minimum CGPA 2.5;

ii) Pass A Level minimum Grade C in (3) other subjects;

iii) Pass Matriculation/Foundation with minimum CGPA 2.5;

iv) Pass any Diploma in Science with minimum CGPA 2.5 (No credit transfer) Equivalent MQF Level 4

v) Pass Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution by MNB with minimum 2 years clinical experience (credit transfer allowed)

AND

  • All candidates who possesses STPM, A Level, Matriculation / Foundation and pass any
  • Diploma except Diploma in Nursing MUST possess:

Either one (1) of the credit below :-

  • Science/ Biology/ Chemistry/ Physic/ Applied Science at SPM or its equivalent

AND

  • Credit in Mathematics (Elementary for Additional or Modern) at SPM or its equivalent

AND

  • MUET with a minimum of Band 3 / IELTS with a minimum of 5.5 / TOEFL with a minimum a score of 515/215/80/Credit in English SPM

International students:

Either one (1) of the following below :-

EQUIVALENT – refers to the overseas academic qualifications obtained that are equivalent to STPM as approved by MQA.

PROGRAMME DETAILS

Topic covered provide basic knowledge and understanding, in relation to the structure of the human body and the function of various organs. It also provides the foundation for courses such as basic client care and the medical surgical nursing. Knowledge on how the body functions in health and illness is essential to understand nursing care.

Sociology module introduces student to social sciences and its related issues from the understanding of various concepts of social institutions, deviant behavior, socialization and stratification. It aims to develop students’ knowledge on the nature, growth and functioning of human societies for its significance in nursing care Psychological module covered the component in the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. It covers normal human development of psychological perspective from infancy through later adulthood, psychological and emotional effects of health and chronic illness

This module contains 2 credit hours is a basic introductory module to Nursing. This module explains about nursing and where it started. Nursing was originally a caretakers for the sick, has gone through a long process of transition to what it is now, a highly demanded profession. The field of education and services has been a major highlight in this profession and followed by nursing research and management that further support the development. This module provides students’ exposure on nursing theorist, development of theories and the use of theories in nursing.

This module contains 3 credit hours, has been given the responsibility to explain to the students about the 14 Principles of Activity Daily Living (ADL) and the system of care delivery required by every nurse. In this module it also contains the application of basic procedures and justification of the usage. It consists of 42 basic nursing procedures required by every nurse to carry the patient’s care in order to fulfil the 14 principle of ADL in the hospital or at home

This course is developed to equip students with skills needed to conduct research at tertiary level. The skills include selecting sources, write documentations, writing skills for essay and reports, critical thinking skills and presentation skills.

This course of clinical practice provides students with knowledge and skills basic of fundamental applied in client care 1 up to client care 2. Students will hands on experience in providing clients basic physical and physiological requirement in the ward situation.

This course enables the students to acquire general knowledge on the types of pathogens (bacteria, fungus, virus and parasites) its characteristics and its effects in the human body including the immune responses and reaction. This is followed by the modes of infection, diagnosis, treatment and control. The practical sessions introduces the students to the principles and practice of diagnostic microbes and parasites

This module reviews fundamental immune mechanisms with particular emphasis on human immunology and its relationship to health and disease and it enables students to acquire general knowledge on the types of pathogens (bacteria, fungus, virus and parasites) its characteristics and its effects in the human body including the immune responses and reaction.

This module introduce student on biochemistry component, structure and functions of basic classes of biological molecules, metabolisms and biosynthesis. Module of nutrition introduce to the life cycle requirements of nutritional components with nutritional diagnosis and intervention for medical nutritional therapy

This course includes the basic concepts of pharmacology and pharmacokinetic. Information on currently used drug to treat infection and disorders of various system of the body and the application of nursing process in drug administration is introduced

This 4 credit hours of module consist of basic elements of body functional requirement i.e. firstly on Fluid & Electrolyte Balance (F&E Balance) for body functioning. Students will learn the important of how electrolytes and fluids interact and influence their balance, such as kidney function, thirst, hormones, medications and hydration levels. Secondly, is about Asepsis, where the emphasis is on the prevention of infection through nursing actions and nursing activities. Administration of medication providing the basic concepts of pharmacology and pharmacokinetic. Information on currently used drug to treat infection and disorders of various system of the body and the application of nursing process in drug administration is introduced

This course of clinical practice provides students with knowledge and skills basic applied to client care 3. Students will hands on experience in providing care follow the principles of practice nursing care

This course introduces students to the core concepts of communication to assist them to communicate effectively with clients, family members and health personnel. It also introduces the students to the concepts and skills management and client counseling.

This Client care module includes 3 credit hours. The contents are divided into 3 aspects. The first aspect focuses on the Nursing Care Process or Nursing Process (NCP), the second aspect of Health Assessment and the third aspect of the subject will be revealed about the promotion of patient health. These three aspects are closely interrelated and relevant to each other to supplement the entire care of the patient with specific condition or diseases.

This modules focuses on medical and surgical care in accordance to cardio vascular system and respiratory system. It addresses the pathophysiological process and psychological responses as a result of these altered functions. Students will be exposed with the knowledge on the specific and general nursing care with the aim of gaining back the health of a patient

This module provides student with knowledge in accordance to the hematology and oncology disorders. It addresses the pathophysiological process and psychological responses as a result of these altered functions. Students will be exposed with the knowledge on the specific and general nursing care on patients with these system with the aim of gaining back health of a patient

This course of clinical practice provides students with the delivery of client care in the medical and surgical ward in application on modules adult care 1 and 2 which covers respiratory, cardiovascular system, haematology and oncology. Students will hands on experience in providing clients basic physical and physiological requirement in the ward situation

This module focuses on medical and surgical care in accordance to the central nervous and musculo skeletal systems (orthopaedic) of a human body. It addresses the pathophysiological process and psychological responses as a result of these altered functions. Students will be exposed with the knowledge on the specific and general nursing care on patients with these systems and the aim of gaining back health of a patient with these disorders.

This module focuses on medical and surgical care in accordance to the gastro intestinal tract system. It addresses the pathophysiological process and psychological responses as a result of these altered functions. Students will be exposed with the knowledge on the specific and general nursing care on patients with these systems and the aim of gaining back health of a patient with these disorders.

This module focuses on medical and surgical care in accordance to genito urinary system and endocrine functions. Haematology and oncology. It addresses the pathophysiological process and psychological responses as a result of these altered functions. Students will be exposed with the knowledge on the specific and general nursing care on patients with these system and organs, and the aim of gaining back health of a patient with these disorders

This course of clinical practice provides students with the delivery of client care in the medical and surgical ward in application on modules adult care 3,4 and 5. Students will hands on experience in providing clients basic physical and physiological requirement in the ward situation

This course provides the knowledge on pre and post-operative care, admission, transfer and discharge procedure on patient undergoing surgical intervention in general surgery.

This module focuses on medical and surgical care in accordance to the eye, ear, nose and throat functions. It addresses the pathophysiological process and psychological responses as a result of these altered functions. Students will be exposed with the knowledge on the specific and general nursing care on patients with these systems and the aim of gaining back health of a patient.

This module focuses on medical and surgical care in accordance skin functions. It addresses the pathophysiological process and psychological responses as a result of these altered functions. . It also covered communicable diseases encompassing the pathophysiology, its pathogenesis, epidemiology, preventive and control measures, inclusive of related psychosocial issues.

This course provides the theoretical underpinning for the understanding of individuals and families, coping with stress and crisis across gender, life span and culture. It also provides the basis for therapeutic intervention designed to promote, maintain, or restore mental health as an integral part of comprehensive professional nursing. Students will experience mental health nursing in a mental health institution.

Entrepreneurship education focuses on the development of skills or attributes that enable the realization of opportunity, where management education is focused on the best way to operate existing herarchies. Both approaches share an interest in achieving “profit” in some form (which in non-profit organizations or government can take the form of increased services or decreased cost or increased responsiveness to the customer/citizen/client)

This course provides the student with introductory knowledge and skills to the care of mothers in the Antepartum, Intrapartum and Postpartum periods. It also include care of the newborn and common gynecological conditions.

This course provides the students with beginning speciality in theoretical knowledge and skills for paediatric nursing practice. It addresses the holistic needs of paediatric clients from birth to the age of twelve years.

This course develop students’ understanding on the development of health services and community health nursing. It also enables them to manage and provide health care to the mothers, child and the elderly in the community

Students will learn about the political history, systems and the administrative structure of Malaysia. Apart from that, they will also recognize the components of society and unity in a multi-racial society; plans and vision of national development; current issues such as the development of humanity and society, and environmental issues in development.

This course of clinical practice is designed for students with the delivery of client care in special unit ward in application on special care modules. Students will posting to child health clinic and community area in providing clients with physical and physiological requirement.

This course provides students with the basic principles of critical care management and their role as a member of the critical health service team. It focuses on nursing care of children and adults who suffer life threatening health problems inclusive of management of medico-legal cases. The integration of theory to practice is strengthened with a psychosocial approach in the fields of trauma, intensive care and hemodialysis.

This course introduces the students to the details both the quantitative and the qualitative research methods. Students are required to develop a research proposal in the form of a small research study into a health or nursing related issue. The selection, development and implementation of each student project are carried out in consultation with a specified academic supervisor. The students are required to comprehensively review the literature, develop a research design and prepare a research proposal,

This course includes both quantitative approaches to research. The focus is to introduce students to the core elements of the research process and in the development of competency in the critical appraisal and evaluation of nursing and health research. Students will be thought concepts and techniques, different statistical methods, and determining whether a relationship between two or more numerical or quantitative variables exist and various types of graphical presentations, useful for researchers who will be doing research in nursing.

This course is an active effort to help students implement the knowledge they are learning in the classroom which requires students to engage in community service project. This course desires the students to develop a natural bent for helping others. The students will be able to learn to see a need and act to meet that need.

This course provides the final year students with the opportunity to actualize their research proposal. For this component of the research, the students are required to collect and analyses the data and to disseminate their research findings.

This course provides knowledge on management and leadership which will include the concepts of change, team building, effective staffing and quality management. The components on medico legal and ethics are included to strengthen the impact of managerial and leadership roles
