Programme Overview

Our Diploma in Healthcare Management is a 3-year programme in healthcare and hospital administration specially designed to equip students with relevant and strong hospital administration, business skills and healthcare knowledge in order to manage hospitals and other healthcare organizations. It trains students to help ensure that their healthcare organizations are medically, financially and operationally capable of serving the needs of patients. The skills taught for healthcare management include customer service and feedback management, staff administration, service quality assurance, as well as related business courses, interpersonal skills and leadership. Students will gain invaluable experience during internship for Diploma in Healthcare Management at KPJ Corporate Headquarters or our network of 28 KPJ Specialist Hospitals.

Financing your Study

KPJ offers a lot of opportunities for Scholarship in the form of Biasiswa by Merit or Dermasiswa based on Financial Need that reflects our commitment in grooming future professionals and leaders in the healthcare sector. With the combination of PTPTN and our Scholarship, many students may not need to pay any tuition or fee during their studies and instead will receive Pocket Money of RM200 per month, plus hostel accommodation for the whole duration of 3 years of your study which is readily included in the tuition and fee. Please refer the following Table for an indication of how much you will actually need to pay or will receive for your study. This calculation is based on the condition that you, like almost all our present students, are approved and receive PTPTN to pay for your tuition and fee. We would help you to apply for PTPTN during your orientation week.

  Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or its equivalent with PASS in Bahasa Malaysia and English and 3 credits in the following subjects;

PROGRAMME DETAILS

This subject introduces students to the theory and concepts of management practices in health care organizations. It discusses the key elements in management in pursuance to the rapid development of health care industry. It also covers about four basic management principles of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.

This course emphasises the importance of understanding the relevant psychology concept and its application for decision making.

This subject provides students with the knowledge they need to make healthy, lifelong behavior changes and become savvy consumers of health information. It covers health topics of primary concern to them and emphasizes on the essential health information necessary to develop a comprehensive understanding of health promotion and disease prevention.

The study of anatomy and physiology will familiarize the students to structures and functions of the human body. Anatomy describes the structures of the body while physiology studies the function of each structure, individually and in combination with other structures. The course is also to acquire a medical terminology vocabulary related to body systems necessary to communicate information in a medical office or hospital environment.

This course emphasizes on accounting information and enhances students’ knowledge to prepare and analyze the 3 main financial accounting statements: statement of financial position (balance sheet), income statement, and statement of owner’s equity. This subject introduces the methods, which form the basis of accounting and financial decision-making.

This subject is intended to provide a set of core skills and competencies in the area of organization theory and behavioural management. It develops further the ability to manage, motivate and lead the efforts of people in the pursuit of organizational goals and objectives.

This subject is designed to address both the strategic importance and the analytic tools of operations management in healthcare businesses. It introduces students to the major concepts surrounding the management of business operations such as supply chain and change management, inventory and material management as well as project management.

This course will introduce to the student the principle and concept of communication, business communication, the audience, the message, non verbal communication, structuring, and presentation, holding meetings & answering questions, job search process.

This course provides students with basic knowledge about the process of decision-making skills and behaviors wisely and efficiently. This includes giving students an understanding of some decision-making approach based on decision-making models selected.

Aspects that influence decision-making as a value, needs and goals as well as an element of uncertainty is also discussed. In addition, religion and religious factors, experience, environment, cognitive, psychological, ethical and individual personalities also taken into account in decision making.

This subject will provide students, the knowledge about the basis of health care promotion and education. It will also provide the student the knowledge about the technique/method that are/will be used in the country as well as other country and how to evaluate the effectiveness of the health programme.

This course focuses on a variety of topics that are pertinent to the delivery of health care services. Topics include management perspective in marketing, financing, nursing services, ambulatory care, hospital and patient services.

This course will introduce to the student the health policy, principle and concept of planning, evaluation, and behaviour of public and private health care organizations at the local, state and national levels.

This course will expose the students to prepare themselves with appropriate safety and hazard precautions for their placement in a wide range of health care specialties in the health care industry.

Matapelajaran ini mendedahkan kepada pelajar tentang konsep-konsep asas yang terdapat dalam Islam di mana ia penting untuk membentuk jatidiri yang kukuh. Topik ini juga akan menjelaskan tentang kepentingan agama dalam kehidupan manusia yang bertujuan untuk memandu manusia ke jalan yang diredhai oleh Allah. Selain daripada itu subjek ini juga akan menjelaskan penekanan yang diberikan oleh Islam terhadap beberapa perkara penting dalam kehidupan manusia termasuklah dalam aspek epistemologi dan aksiologi, kekeluargaan, kemasyarakatan, ekonomi dan salah faham terhadap Islam.

This course offers a state-of-the-art integration of theoretical and evidence-based management of human resources in healthcare organizations. The focus of the course is on leadership of transformational human resource management processes by line managers in complex adaptive organizational systems. Students will also participate in career development activities including reflective writing assignments, presentations, and resume preparation.

This course is about the supportive services as a great significance to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of hospital services. It is important for the student to learn about how to provide effective support services to the hospital’s customer and to improve the functions of hospitals.

This subject will cover the concept of interpersonal skills that most likely as opportunity for student to learn about how to discover about themselves such as the way to communicate effectively, to harness own full potential, to manage unwanted feelings and to overcome barriers to personal development.

This subject examines leadership within a personal and professional context. Students explore leadership qualities and skills and the role leadership plays both locally and globally. Personal and interpersonal effectiveness skills that contribute to contemporary leaderships. It also provides student in leadership positions with the insight, awareness and techniques to lead more effectively, influence others and become an inspirational role model.

This subject will cover the comprehensive knowledge and practical information about computer applications and information systems in health care. It also discusses about the role of informatics and its associated technologies in clinical practice and includes medical decision skills that necessary as well as the concept of Biocomputing

This course introduces the students to basic concepts of statistics and describes how these concepts are used in making inferences from experimental data to be applied in medical and allied health area. Different analysis methods will be introduced.

The course is essentials for students to learn about public health programmes and also educates themselves about the associated health and risk behaviors that could lead to certain disease as well as increase their awareness on health issues pertaining, AIDS, cancers and non-tobacco environment.

The subject introduces the students to an overview of the healthcare system and its method of financing, the strength and weaknesses of the public healthcare system and the approaches to financial problem solving. Cost of healthcare and funding of both the public and private sectors were also revealed.

The course is about how today’s societies need persons trained in crisis management that will staff healthcare systems and will be able to manage health crises, when needed. They will be devoted to principles of prevention and constant alertness and will show excellent organizational skills.

The introduction to this course is to give the students the theoretical and practical skills to conduct, analyze and present in written an experimental task in the area of health and scientific research and to give insight and understanding of research methodology.

This course consists of a three credit service-learning project related to an area of healthcare management. The practicum requires teams of students to complete a service learning experience with a local community health agency or organization. The student and community partners will collaboratively determine the project and complete the necessary activities. Deliverables will include written assignments and reports, a journal of daily and weekly activities. Students are required to understand the internal and external environment affecting the health care organization: Administration Department, Billing and Inventory and Hospital Maintenance

This course offers a current and historical overview of the health care systems and the details about role of health care providers in private and public sectors as well as their influences in shaping Malaysia rural and urban health services. The course also highlighted about health care policy, services and systems.

The subject focuses on CQI as an approach to quality management that builds upon traditional quality assurance methods by emphasizing the organization and systems. It emphasizes on the rapid growth and proliferation of managed care organizations in the healthcare industry has caused many public health agencies, providers, employers, and consumers to question the quality of healthcare and the consequences for patient safety.

This course will introduce to the student the legal relationships of physicians and patients, contractual agreements, professional liability, malpractice, medical practice acts, informed consent, and codes of conduct and etiquette issues. Emphasis is placed on legal terms, professional attitudes, and the principles and basic concepts of ethics and laws involved in providing medical services.

The practicum is a three-way partnership among students, school of business and management, and Jabatan Kesihatan Daerah / Klinik Kesihatan in which the practicum takes place under the supervision of a site preceptor. The practicum is a planned, supervised, and evaluated practice experience in health policy that aims to provide students with an opportunity to synthesize, integrate, and apply practical skills, knowledge, and training learned through courses, to gain professional experience in a professional public health work environment, and to work on public health practice projects that are of particular interest. The practicum serves as an important first step in a public health career, providing an introduction to the practical skills and experience necessary for a productive and fulfilling profession.
