Post Basic Certificate in Renal Nursing has been designed to develop safe, competent and professional nurses to provide holistic approach to patient care in all aspects of care for adult and paediatric kidney patients and their families

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Malaysian students:

  • Possess Diploma in Nursing from a recognized MNB.
  • Registered with MNB.
  • Possess current annual Practicing certificate (APC) for nurses from MNB.
  • ≥ 2 years clinical working experience

Health Status

  • All candidates MUST be certified medically fit by a registered medical practitioner with ONE MONTH from commencement of the nursing programme.
  • A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into nursing program. Serious physical or mental illness, and / or Serious communicable disease
  • Candidate MUST not have any physical disabilities or impaired senses that hinder nursing dexterity

PROGRAMME DETAILS

This module of 2 credit hour will provide students in depth of knowledge in anatomy and the structure of the urinary system. Student will be expose to physiology of urinary system and the regulation of fluid and electrolyte and acid base in urinary system disorder.

The module of 3 credits is focuses on specific knowledge of altered urology function as well able to develop nursing care plan for patients with altered renal function. Besides, student will be expose on medical emergency in nephrology and the specific intervention for patient with renal condition.

This module of 3 credit hours, will acquire the student to learn the condition and the management of patients with kidney disease and able to apply appropriate nursing care plan for patients with kidney disease. This module focuses on treatment and nursing care of Renal Transplant and Peritoneal Dialysis including the Immunosuppression drug and specific diet for CKD

This module is 3 credit hours. It’s a 6 weeks clinical placement which focus on performing clinical skills safely and competent in executing nursing care procedure and apply appropriate nursing care effectively using nursing process to patients with altered renal functions.

This module is 4 credit hours. Students will be expose to Renal Replacement therapy (RRT) hemodialysis and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).

This module is 2 credit hours. Student will be expose to counselling and communication in understanding the psycho social of renal patient.

This module is 3 credit hours. It’s a 6 weeks clinical placement which focus on performing clinical skills safely and competent in executing nursing care procedure and apply appropriate nursing care effectively using nursing process to patients with altered renal functions. Students will be able to provide health education and also counseling regarding renal diet, drug therapy and compliance rehabilitative care to promote quality of life.
