Programme Overview

This post basic program is developed to assist staff nurse in advanced knowledge and skills to perform competently in managing pediatric patients. This program will cover acute and chronic conditions in pediatrics. For clinical posting the students will be posted in KPJ group hospitals as well as Ministry of Health hospitals. As technology and medical/pharmaceutical interventions allow children to survive from childhood illness and grow into adolescents and young adults.  Pediatric nurses play an important role in providing quality, evidence – based care.

Pediatric nursing is like most nursing specialties which is highly in and expected to grow. In future nurses skilled in this specialty will be needed even more in the coming years. Additional education can open opportunities to become a pediatric nurse practitioner with advanced knowledge and skills to perform competently in managing pediatric patients.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Malaysian Students:

  • Possess Diploma in Nursing from a recognized MNB.
  • Registered with MNB.
  • Possess current annual Practicing certificate (APC) for nurses from MNB.
  • ≥ 2 years clinical working experience

Health Status

  1. All candidates MUST be certified medically fit by a registered medical practitioner with ONE MONTH from commencement of the nursing programme.
  2. A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into nursing program. Serious physical or mental illness, and/or Serious communicable disease
  3. Candidate MUST not have any physical disabilities or impaired senses that hinder nursing dexterity

PROGRAMME DETAILS

This module will exposed students on principle of care in pediatric nursing, the normal growth and development of human being in accordance to pediatric group and general intervention to promote and support the growth.

This module focuses on the main function of the body system e.g; the system of respiratory, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal in pediatric. Specific assessment of each system will be the focus of teaching and learning to determine the normal and abnormal of the above systems among children 

This module is the practical aspect of module 6123, the system of respiratory, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal in pediatric.  Students will be exposed to the various kind of nursing care approaches to promote good patient outcomes; such as general to specific care on health promotion strategies, maintenance of care for children having altered condition on respiratory, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal system.

This module focuses on the main functions of the body system e.g.; the central nervous system, musculoskeletal genito-urinary, skin, endocrine system in pediatric. Specific assessment of each system will be the focus of teaching and learning to determine the normality and abnormality of the above systems among children.  In this module, students are also exposed to communicable diseases most common among children and the intervention

This module is the practical aspect of module 6244.  Students will be exposed to the various kind of nursing care approaches to promote good patient outcomes; such as general to specific care on health promotion strategies, maintenance of care for children having altered condition on the central nervous system, musculoskeletal genito-urinary, skin, endocrine system in pediatric care.

This is a special module for students to acquire the knowledge on providing patient education program pertaining health issues in children. Students are exposed to various aspect of intervention mainly interpretation of results, planning for specific care and small project based on evidences
