Programme Overview

KPJIC Penang now offering programme Certificate in Post Basic Perioperative Nursing, it is a 6 months home-grown programme consist 20 credit hours. It obtained its approval from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) and the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) in 2021. The structure of the curriculum is guided by the Standard and Guidelines of the Nursing Board Malaysia.

A Certificate in Post Basic Perioperative Nursing will equip registered nurses with the required knowledge, skills and attitude to function in a safety-conscious and effective manner in a perioperative environment. The course contents encompass theory and clinical practice that emphasis on the application of principles in Operating Room.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Malaysian students:

Minimum entry requirement for  Post Basic Certificate in Perioperative Nursing:

  1. Possess Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution by MNB.
  2. Registered with the MNB
  3. Possess current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) for nurses from MNB.
  4. Minimum two (2) years clinical working experience.

PROGRAMME DETAILS

This module is to provide the students the fundamental concepts in operating room includes the physical layout, planning, infection control policies and environmental management in operating theatre.

This module will provide the students with knowledge and skills related to the technique of handling and preparing instrument, sets and trolley setup used in surgical procedures also the medico legal issues in perioperative nursing and the recommended safe practices.

This module is to provide the students the specific management and care of patient safety  based on surgical  specialties and care of patient undergoing anaesthesia.

This module is to provide the students the opportunity to transfer and apply existing knowledge and skills into areas of general perioperative practice and participate in the various roles in operating room.

This module is to provide the students about the care of the instruments through decontamination, method of sterilization, sterilization process monitors and the use of cart system.

This module is to provide the students about the concept of management and extended roles in operating theatre.

This module is to provide the students the opportunity to transfer and apply existing knowledge and skills  into areas of general perioperative practice and participate in the various roles in operating room.
